DESCRIPTION:‘As the Heron’ are a collaborative project between\, Lauren South (Greengrass) and Gary Painting (Crybb/Cross the Border). Both accomplished songwriters and performers\, they decided to play more together in early 2020 and were quickly gathering momentum before Lockdown arrived. With a compelling mix of vocals\, fiddle\, guitar and bouzouki and a steadily increasing repertoire of compelling original songs and reworkings of traditional and contemporary folk songs and tunes\, As the Heron are definitely one to watch. Some of us saw them at The Brazenose Fringe in August\, where they went down very well\, amongst Folk luminaries such as Ric and Vo\, Fleetwood Cave and Gerry Colvin. \nKatie is doing a completely solo set this time. A gifted multi-instrumentalist\, singer/songwriter and storyteller with a fast-growing reputation in the UK Folk world\, her sound can best be described as earthy\, Piano and Accordion accompanied English Folk. Musicianship at its finest! … Bringing traditional folk styles into contemporary settings and giving them new life…well worth checking out.
